Why yes, I am going on another quick trip in a couple of weeks–this time to the beach in California. (I haven’t traveled this much in two years. Poor Toby!) My oldest friend is also turning 30 and has arranged a beach house weekend for eight other people, with menus and itineraries and everything else planned. So the least I could do was make a new dress for the event:
This was one of the new Cynthia Rowley for Simplicity patterns and I have to say I like it a lot. Here’s a better idea of the fabric color (and my own lack thereof):
(While we’re on the subject…spray tans: Pro or con? I’m thinking con, but I don’t want to blind everyone in the group with my special shade of pale, either.)
OK, OK, no spray tan! 🙂 Thank you all for the advice. Erin, go for it–it’s a fun pattern! Kara, copy away because I’m totally copying your yoga bag. Contrapunctus, hi again. And yes, Jason, I will own the pale.
Another “con” vote on the spray tan… too much potential to end up looking like an oompa-loompa (classic 70s version, as orange as the sofa in the shag-carpeted den).
Hey, you’re from a winter time state! Own your geographical pastiness!
looked at my watch it was nine twenty one was at a rock and roll dance having nothing but fun
Definitely con on the spray tan.
My sister forwarded this post to me and I have to comment…I LOVE your dress. I totally have this pattern too and am inspired to make it now. Beautiful job!
Oh Karen, it is amazing! I have that pattern, but I think I like your version better than the ones on the pattern cover. And as usual, your fabric choice is perfect. I might definitely have to copy you on this one.
As far as spray tans, I tend to lean toward con. There has to be a nice medium between pastiness and jersey shore, but I think that shade is quite elusive.
