I sneaked in one last project after I posted my sewing year in review: a pair of brocade pants for dress up. (I wore them to the symphony this past weekend.)

I debated making anything special at all, especially since I don’t go to many dressy events any more. Back in college, in the days of getting student tickets, I was at the symphony at least once a month, and I was performing, too. I had a whole stable of shiny skirts and black dresses and velvet coats.

Fifteen years later, most of those didn’t fit (and met their fate in the great Kon Mari year of tidying) and the few that are left fail my comfort test: I am too old to tolerate flimsy skirts in January (or at all, really) and mince along with numb feet in little dress flats.

So pants it was, in that mustard/gold color I can’t get enough of. I used the True Bias Hudson pattern and some brocade off eBay and they sewed up in about two hours. I was able to wear them with a loose shirt and ankle boots that could accommodate warm socks and I was comfortable and shiny.
