Mostly Tile

Two out of the four days of the long weekend were tile days–it took a lot longer than I thought it would, but it’s looking really good–snd it’s staying on the wall, even better! (I had my doubts about that accent tile.)

I’m so pleased with myself that I remembered most of the tips Dad taught me when we did the bathroom together–this was my first big project without him physically there helping/doing most of it. He was definitely consulted beforehand and I have a feeling he was waiting by the phone Friday in case of trouble, but Doc and I got it done on our own. I even ran the tile saw and remembered how to make cutouts for outlets! (Still have a lot of practice before I can cut curves like Dad, though.)

I might have been pleased with my retained knowledge and how everything looks, but Toby was VERY UPSET we were doing something out of the routine:

But we got it all put back together and had a normal Sunday with a hike, so Prince Toby could relax.

I have to grout this week but the hardest part is over! Now to move on to Xmas decorating and gift sewing and birthday cake making.

Books, Butts, Beans

We used the good weather this weekend to wash windows and do yard work vs. getting into the mountains. A tough choice, but the windows are so clean, it’s like the restoration of the Sistine Chapel.

I did sneak some crafty time in to embellish and bind a ready-made text block and to sew some fancy sweatpants (and take a picture to check the fit). Toby supervised with one eye and showed off his toe beans.

Wildflower Season

We drove an hour or so east to the Uinta Mountains, where it was 30 degrees cooler and the wildflowers were out at 10,000 feet. Fehr Lake is a favorite trail, full of Heidi meadows and Bob Ross lakes–just extravagantly (the word of the summer!) beautiful.

Mostly Inside Things

It’s finally reached scorching-hot summer temperatures here so we mostly stayed inside for the weekend. (I’m just glad it took us until mid-July to get so hot; last year it was 100 degrees in early June.)

I did go practice my skate turns early-ish Sunday morning, and apparently it was so hot someone’s fake eyelashes melted off the night before:

I also tried bookbinding and wow, what a nostalgia trip–filling an afternoon with random crafts, just like we did before the internet.

And no matter the weather there are tigers, whether in a sewing project or just sticking their tongues out around the house:

Weekend Details

Wow it was nice to have a long weekend. I mostly sewed things but we also went up the canyon (Upper Millcreek is finally open for the summer) and to an art museum and even saw a movie (although that was disappointing).

Some details:

(That last pic is from Doc, who has a great eye.)

Finding Color

It was a gray weekend but we saw some blue skies on a hike…

…and I sneaked in some block prep between Christmas sewing (another quilt coat is in the works for 2023!)

Pies And Hikes

I wasn’t joking about focusing on the pie for Thanksgiving:

We kept about 1.5 of these and drove the rest around to family on the day–a delightful new way to celebrate!

Then it was just pie-fueled nature hikes and couch times and sewing for the rest of the weekend:

Quilts & Glucose

…that’s the weekend summed up in two words, ha.

I took a “freelance Friday” and went to the fabric store in the next county with my friend, where I bought more quilt fabric:
That bottom row of fat quarters might become a quilt coat? With a white background this time instead of black? How many quilt coats does a person need?

Toby has another glucose monitor on at the moment and we’re increasing the dose, which gave us a scare on Thursday when his blood sugar plummeted.  So otherwise I hung around the house most of the weekend, watching him do a lot of this:

(Saturday, his numbers were normal for most of the day and he was SO happy. That’s a good sign! Hopefully we can get this dose dialed in for good.)

Practicing For Ease And Abundance

It’s not fall yet (it’s going to be 103 today, yikes) but it is September and the Autumn of Ease and Abundance is just around the corner, I can feel it.  So I spent the long weekend practicing for it: sitting streamside in Millcreek, starting a quilt, watching Toby show us how it’s done.

Longest Weekend

Having a week off was SO NICE, my friends: We celebrated my dad’s birthday with pies I made; I went to a fabric store with a friend; showed another friend the magic of sergers; organized and cleaned so much; and ended up at Bear Lake yesterday with our nephew.

Is there a way to keep life like this while also being able to afford food to eat and a roof over our head? I think I want to find out.
