Tuesday Project Roundup: Hipster Baby Booties

After knitting veggie hats and owl sweaters, I think my co-workers now expect me to make something for the moms-to-be rather than just contribute to the group gift (at least, that’s what I tell myself. Maybe they dread my creations? if so, they mask it well).

Anyway, this co-worker is having a little boy and is very hip, so I went with a pair of moccasin-booties, using this free pattern:

Cute, small, lots of impact in proportion to the knitting time required: I think hipster booties are the new veggie hats!

Tuesday Project Roundup: Super-Fast Tunic Dress

I made this one in about three days after I finally finished those curtains. I’d used the basic pattern before for the giant paisley shift and just re-drafted the neckline. The slit means it doesn’t need a zipper, so that helped keep things speedy.

The band at the bottom is leftover Liberty of London fabric from the scarf I made for a friend in December. I like how the William Morris pattern looks almost like an Indian print when you put it on this silhouette.

…and here’s a gratuitous baby shot. Because dress projects kind of pale next to “here’s a new human” projects.

Toby, Cover Your Ears

Forty-eight hours ago, if you had asked me who or what my favorite creature in the whole world was, I would have said Toby. But now someone is giving him some stiff competition for that spot:

Meet Skyler, the long-awaited nephew, born April 30. He may be my new favorite thing ever.

(Okay, uncover your ears now, Toby.)

Tuesday Project Roundup: Sticking With A Theme

My sister-in-law had a second baby shower over the weekend, which meant more BABY THINGS. Since the sweater for her other shower turned out so big, I wanted to do newborn-sized things for this one. I didn’t think I needed to move away from my randomly-picked theme of “elephants,” though:

Elephant blankie!

Elephant bib!

Onesies decorated with iron-on elephants! (and a lion)

Little knit diaper cover!

And yes, I resisted the urge to try any of the clothes on Toby.

Tuesday Project Roundup: Little Elephants

As I said back in December, my brother and his wife are expecting a little boy in about a month. One of the baby showers has now passed so I can finally show you some BABY PROJECTS!

This is a little sweater with elephants on it (the green blobs), from this pattern. It turned out pretty big, so I think Nephew will be able to wear it his second winter.

And what does a stylish baby wear with his cardigan? Matching pants, of course, with elephant fabric on the cuffs. (I even tried out flat-felled seams on these, so they met my 3+1 Things goal.)

I finished both of these before I moved, but getting them wrapped for the shower got me excited again to sew tiny things. What should I do next? Doesn’t every baby need a Hawaiian shirt?

Tuesday Project Roundup: !!!!!!

What’s this?
No, this isn’t for a friend or a co-worker’s baby. I haven’t lost it and started making clothes for Toby. And I don’t have any personal scandal I need to confess. There’s a much better explanation:

I’M GOING TO BE AN AUNTIE!!

My brother and sister-in-law are expecting a BOY! It’s their first and the first baby on our side of the family at all, so we are all VERY EXCITED.

As you can see, I have some projects planned. I actually have enough projects planned to keep the kid dressed until he’s about three, I think. And don’t get me going on the toys to make and buy, and the trips to the park to take, and the storybooks to read, and all the free babysitting I will offer…

Very excited indeed! Hooray!

Tuesday Project Roundup: Tiny Little "o rly?"

Finally, I can share the cuteness that is the avian-inspired baby shower gift for a friend:
The owls do have button eyes, but they’re small.

When I heard that one of my few and therefore special girlfriends was having a baby, I knew I had to make something just as special. I wanted to knit and sew, and when I found the owl and bird flannel (from here) everything just clicked: I would make a tiny “Owls” sweater from this pattern (like my big one) and then two simple blankets (just squares sewn together with rick-rack on the edge). I was done with this about six weeks before the baby shower last Saturday–which turned out to be owl-themed! That was a crazy coincidence, ya rly.
