Yesterday, it was the birthday of both Dorothy Parker and Ray Bradbury. (Ray turned 90! Way to go, sir.)
Here’s a list of 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Ray Bradbury (actually, you might know them, but it’s still fun to read).
And here’s one of my favorite quotes ever from Mrs. Parker:
“This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force.”
Heh – I like that Parker quote. I’ve read some novels I wanted to throw, mostly back in college. The only one I recall actually hurling across the room, however, was The Bostonians. I don’t remember now what I so disliked about it, but Henry James and I did not get along, no sir.
There’s a pretty good movie about Dorothy Parker and the Algonquin roundtable called Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle, if you’ve not seen it…
Love that Dorothy Parker. I am reading her biography right now.
