Now With More Poems!

I found another good one on Writer’s Almanac last week. I’ve never heard of Barbara Hamby but she sounds more like Kerouac than Kerouac did. (Any poem that can combine “hallelujah” and “coreopsis” is all right by me.)

It’s a long one so I’m linking to it, but go read it and be happy at the sheer sound of it.

Thus Spake The Mockingbird

  1. Well, I’m doing my best to get it appreciated.

I didn’t know “duodecimo” either, but it sounds awesome and now I have a new word. I did know “coreposis.” My mom grew them.

  2. I am a very, very smart person with a near genius IQ. I may not have the best vocabulary, but in the first 2 lines of poem there were 2 words whose meaning or pronounciation were foreign to me. For all I know the words themselves maybe foriegn. Who was the poet writing this to be read by? Not the normal masses, and thats why poetry is a underappreciated form of literature.
