We’re still putting in looong hours for the work event. I don’t know about my co-workers, but this is the soundtrack of how I feel:
I think it should also be the soundtrack to kick off the big event, too, but that’s just me.
I’ve been really enjoying my juicer at home–which is a good thing, because at work my food choices have included Dominos and the vending machine. I was reading ingredients on something and thought of this song from Animaniacs:
Animaniacs was the best.
There’s been no time for sewing capes this past week, but there’s always time to talk about yarn. Here’s the latest:
I haven’t knitted a pair of socks since 2008 but I suddenly wanted some sock yarn, so that’s the variegated blue stuff. The gray yarn was going to be a pair of boot toppers, but then I realized I haven’t worn a dress and boots to work in the last year, so I think I’ll keep going and make some legwarmers.
My yarn, let me show you it.
The more stressed I get, the more I feel like it’s me against the world. Good thing I remembered that I think about space at times like this, and good thing Neil Tyson has reminded me that “we are all connected–to each other biologically, to the earth chemically and to the rest of the universe atomically.”

Happy Monday.
1. Last Night At the Met is a delightful fashion blog of what people wear to the Metropolitan Opera. It’s a pretty brilliant way to show that opera isn’t stuffy or only for rich old people, without using any words. (Utah Opera? Are you reading?)
2. I’m still on a Marx Brothers kick. YouTube has a lot of compilations of Chico and Harpo’s performances on piano and harp. I’m still thinking “Live action cartoon!” whenever I see them:
As I said Tuesday, we have a fairly terrifying amount of work to do in the next two weeks at the craft company (prepping for an event) and it’s hard to stay in the moment when you just want to fast forward to when it’s all over and you can go home at a normal time. But the birthday goal was for “attention”–and my life is now, not in two weeks–so here are a couple images helping me remember that:
(In the spirit of full disclosure, I have this image printed out at my desk, too.)
I found some Marx Brothers films on Netflix Instant over the weekend and have been watching those for the first time as an adult. I realize that the Marxes came first, but all I can think when I’m watching them is, “This is like a real-life Animaniacs episode!”
I’m loving Harpo so much. As did the Animaniacs–Wakko’s “gookie” face was a tribute to Harpo’s. Thanks, Internet!
Remember how I was going to sew a cape during my winter vacation? Yeah, I do too. But I do have a good start–a test muslin and the lining cut out:
Why such a slow beginning? Tracing off the pattern took a few hours and then, when I went to make the muslin, I discovered that the smallest size available, that I’d traced, was too big. Luckily my friend had somehow found a digital version of the pattern that had a wider range of sizes (it’s an internet mystery) so she printed it out for me. Then I had to tape that together, cut everything out again, re-make the muslin, and draft the lining I’m adding, too.
So really, I’ve made this twice already; I should be pleased at how far I’ve come. But I just found out we’re on mandatory overtime at work (including weekends) for the next couple weeks, so I hope I can get this done while it’s still winter.
